When I begin to feel down about the state of the economy and the dire predictions about when things will get better, I walk through the halls of the Adult Learning Center and my hope is restored.
Times are tough. The traditional sources of funds we've relied on in the past have become unreliable and new funding sources are hard to find. We struggle to meet the ever-increasing demand for the services and programs that the Adult Learning Center provides.
Those are today's realities. But just as real is the fact that we make a difference in people's lives. A difference that is echoed in the sounds that can be heard in the halls of our main building on Lake Street, Clearway high school on Arlington Street and in the elementary schools that host our before- and after-school programs in Nashua, Merrimack, Hudson and Litchfield. Sounds like...
- The voices of immigrants and refugees gaining English language skills critical to success in their new country;
- The sounds of keyboards and printers as computer technology students learn skills needed to pursue new careers;
- The laughter of children as they play and learn together in the early childhood, before- and after-school and summer camp programs;
- The clap of a "high five" between two students as they gain educational success in Clearway high school.
This is the time of year when you will receive requests for support from a number of well-deserving organizations. I understand that deciding which organizations to support can be a difficult one. In making your decision, I ask that you remember that students and families come to the Adult Learning Center with a belief that through their efforts and hard work, their lives will be better and their futures will be brighter.
We celebrate success every day at the Adult Learning Center. And, through your tax-deductible donation, we will continue to offer programs to members of our community who not only need but deserve our support as they strive to bring positive change to their lives.
Sincerely,
Mary Jordan Executive Director
