Nashua, NH – The Nashua Adult Learning Center and STAR Analytical Services are currently piloting a new automated pronunciation screening test that measures how well non-native English speakers can be understood. The system helps English language students understand how easily others understand their English and shows them areas of oral communication/pronunciation which might be improved. Read more »

| Where Are They Now? |
Nashua, NH – The Adult Learning Center is celebrating its first 40 years of Opening Doors of Opportunity. What began with a staff of four offering programs to 70 students in Adult Basic Education and English as a Second Language at the First Baptist Church has grown to an award-winning community resource that annually helps over 3,000 individuals earn their GED diploma, learn to speak English, become skilled employees, and work knowing their children are provided safe, nurturing care. | Student invites teacher to Kenya |
Nashua, NH – Adult Learning Center student, Damaris Crayton, and Adult Education counselor, Sharon Dalton, met during the 2007-2008 school year when the Adult Learning Center welcomed their first African refugees. Sharon explained, “there were times that I needed to check in on our newest students to see how they were adjusting; Damaris was one of those students and one of three from Kenya.” The two quickly became friends and worked on projects together like assisting 30 other refugees apply for Green Cards. Nashua leads in adult education enrollments |
NASHUA TELEGRAPH.com By MICHAEL BRINDLEY – With her three children doing well in school, Melissa Santana feels the pressure to keep pace. “They’re all getting good grades, so I’ve got to step up,” she said. Santana, 30, is enrolled in the Nashua School District’s adult education program. She is taking classes at night and is on pace to get her high school diploma in December. She works as an licensed nursing assistant but has a goal of becoming an ultrasound technician. To do that, she needs her high school diploma. Read more » |

| ALC’S Child Care Program Earns Top National Accreditation Award |
Nashua, NH – The Adult Learning Center’s (ALC) Child Care Program has earned top accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) – the nation’s leading organization of early childhood professionals. The Adult Learning Center earned a perfect score of 100% in Leadership, Teaching, Community Relationships and other criteria, a rare achievement that represents the highest recognition possible for excellence in Child Care. ALC PREPS COLLEGE-BOUND TO SUCCEED |
Jill Maurice tried her hand at college once before, but it didn’t end the way she wanted.
Shortly after graduating from high school in 1993, she enrolled in community college but didn’t finish her degree. Nearly 20 years later, Maurice is trying it again, but she has help this time. The Hudson resident was one of 15 people to recently complete the Get Ready for College program at the Adult Learning Center. Read more » |
