"For our two working-parents family, the Adventure Club has been a great program for both before and after school hours. You see staff playing with the children, helping with homework, planning a fun activitiy, or just having fun with the kids.

This program has enabled us to be at work knowing that our daughter is safe, having fun with other children, and being cared for by the outstanding and accommodating staff.. Every family should be so fortunate to have a program like Adventure Club.

Clearway

CLEARWAY HIGH SCHOOL:
At Clearway, teenagers are helped to experience academic and personal success while learning to function effectively in society. The program focuses on students' development of basic skills, self-confidence, career exploration, and daily life skills. The school is state certified for the education of students in special education, including learning disabled and emotionally handicapped students. Clearway provides a wide range of opportunities for teenagers to experience success.

Clearway High School was established by the Adult Learning Center in 1977 as an alternative high school program for teenagers who need a specialized setting to successfully obtain a GED or, in some cases, high school credits. It has evolved and grown through the years to become a well-respected program, approved by the New Hampshire Department of Education.

Clearway addresses the critical need for alternative education options for at-risk youngsters and is a valued educational resource for Nashua and surrounding communities. We educate approximately one hundred students each year who are usually aged fifteen to nineteen.

Clearway is successful primarily because the program's objectives have remained stable since its inception:

  • to improve basic skills, enabling students to earn their GED or be recommended for high school credit from their sending school district
  • to enhance students' ability to make responsible decisions
  • to increase their proficiency in dealing with daily life responsibilities.

We offer an emotionally supportive, self-paced educational environment which encourages students to overcome previous academic failure and discover personal success.

The academic curriculum provides competency in basic educational skills: English, mathematics, science, and social studies.

A School-to-Work program helps students assess their career goals, and teaches them employability skills through job shadowing, mentorships, and career exploration opportunities.

Through computer skills classes, students not only become proficient in basic operations and graphics, they also learn to build computers, which are then distributed throughout the Adult Learning Center.

Life skills instruction helps students become proficient in the tasks which are required of adults in their daily lives.

Health classes enable students to take fuller responsibility for their own health and well-being.

Enrichment activities are designed to expand students' vision: they participate in art, theater, outdoor activities and field trips.

Counseling is provided on a wide variety of issues important to teens in making a successful transition into adulthood.

Childcare may also be available to promote school attendance for young parents.

Classes are held Monday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 2:15 PM at 40 Arlington Street in Nashua.

Enrollment is held one day per month, and interviews are requested prior to enrollment.

Students who have been identified by their home school district as having special educational needs must be referred by the Special Education Office in their school district. They should contact that office and request a referral.

Non-identified Nashua residents should call 598-8303 ext. 201 for further enrollment information.

"At Clearway we all get respect from each other. If we don't understand something, the teachers talk to us and help us."

Clearway student
