Overview of Program

Clearway High School was established by the Adult Learning Center in 1977 as a school for teenagers who need a specialized setting to successfully complete high school. Clearway is designed to meet the needs of a broad spectrum of young people for whom public school was ineffective, and has become a well-respected school which is a valued educational resource for Nashua and surrounding communities. Our basic philosophy has been consistent since 1977: If students are able to demonstrate competence, their feelings of self-worth and potential for leading productive and successful lives will increase. Ways of achieving this end will vary, but our belief is that teenagers can achieve personal and academic success is reflected in everything Clearway offers.

Clearway is successful primarily because the program’s objectives have remained stable since its inception:

  • To improve basic skills, enabling students to earn their GED or to achieve academic credits that can lead to the acquisition of a high school diploma.
  • To increase students' abilities to access and utilize both services and opportunities available to them.
  • To promote improved self-knowledge and self-respect so that students can more effectively function at school, work, and in the community.

Exit from the program is based upon returning to public school, acquiring the twenty credits required for the granting of a high school diploma, or successfully completing the GED examination. All students are encouraged to pursue further academic study or vocational training and/or to obtain full-time employment.

What we offer

Clearway is approved by the State of New Hampshire to offer its students a 20 credit diploma. It is also approved as a special education placement for identified students.  All students, whether pursuing a diploma or GED, enroll in courses that are approved for credit towards a diploma.
